You may take the courses at any community college or university, but we prefer that those marked ** be taken at SJSU. If you choose to take them elsewhere, the decision to determine equivalency or lack thereof rests with the MBT Program Director, Dr. Sally Veregge, and respective subject professors. For equivalencies, please visit the SJSU Articulation Office.
Some basic courses may be taken through Open University to
save time, or one can
enter the university as a post baccalaureate student. Some of the prerequisites
are offered as short, intensive courses during the summer. These short courses
are non-credit courses and cannot be applied to a degree, but do fulfill the prerequisites
for the program. In
order to apply, you have to have at least completed 1 year of general
chemistry, 1 year of organic chemistry, 1 year of physics and an
introductory biology course with a lab. Once they are completed, you
are welcome to apply. Keep in mind, however, that your application
will not be as competitive as it could since you will have 4
prerequisites remaining.
You can apply to the program as long as you have the
necessary prerequisites.
The entire two-year program costs $23,000,
regardless of your residency status or of the visa you have. The fees
are allocated in $5,375 increments, submitted at the beginning of each
regular semester and $1,500 for the summer session.
Visit the Financial Aid & Scholarship Office for information.
If you claim to have had English medium, you must provide proof by submitting an “English Medium Letter” to the Graduate Studies & Research (GSR) office before posted document deadlines. GSR will only accept letters from your conferring University Registrar's Office with the detailed information that follows:
The letter must be from your Undergraduate Bachelor program (3 or more
years of instruction). GSR does not accept 2 year Master or 1 year
Post Grad diploma individually. All letters are verified and reviewed
by GSR before a waiver for the TOEFL is granted.
The minimum TOEFL score required for admission into the MBT
program is 220 for the computer-based
test. The preferred TOEFL score is 250 or above on the computer-based
exam. If you have already taken the TOEFL, you will need to submit an original
color copy of your results.
ETS keeps
scores on file for two years. If you took the TOEFL over two years
ago, there is a small possibility you will have to retake the exam.
Contact Graduate Studies &
Research for more
information.
There is no minimum score required. However, admission to the program is very competitive, so we encourage you to do your very best. We prefer a Verbal Reasoning score of 570 or above, a Quantitative Reasoning score of 690 or above, and an Analytical Writing score of 5 or above. Both
the General and Subject GRE are required for admission to the MBT
program. You can take the Subject test in
a relevant subject of your choice. Both
computer-based and paper-based scores are accepted. If you are not able to take the GRE prior to being admitted to the program, and if you request permission from the MBT Director, you can take the GRE after you are admitted to the program or during the first year of the program. All students must take the GRE General and Subject GRE, at the latest, during the first year of the program. GRE scores are reviewed (if they are available) by the Admissions Committee, so it is best, if possible to provide them prior to admissions
The
MCAT, DAT, LSAT and GMAT can be substituted for the General GRE
only.
If you received your Bachelor’s degree from SJSU, you are
not required to submit your original SJSU transcripts unless you
graduated in the 70s or 80s.
No, the
application deadline remains March 1. For more details on the
application process, visit the Graduate Studies & Research website
for domestic applicants and
international applicants.
Most of our courses are offered on campus or in
its vicinity. Some of the MBA program courses are offered online.
In your
Statement of Purpose, you should explain your interest in the MBT
program and how it would benefit your career.
The program is designed to accommodate working
professionals. As such most classes are offered in the evening. Each
student carries an average of 8-9 units per semester (considered
full-time by the University). Be aware, though, that some classes do
require afternoon attendance. About 25% of the incoming class plans to
continue full-time work while completing the program in two years. We
expect that students will finish in two years.
No, we
only accept students for the fall semester.
If you are already employed, you should do the
internship in any other department than that in which you are
currently working.
To apply to the MBT program for fall 2008, go to CSU Mentor. In addition to submitting the documents required by Graduate Admissions & Program Evaluations, the MBT Program requires you to send additional documents as well as a copy of those submitted to Graduate Admissions:
Please send the above-listed documents to: San José State University
While
we request a minimum overall GPA of 3.0, other application documents
and your interview performance can supplement a low GPA. Therefore, a
slightly lower GPA should not prevent you from applying to the
program.
The
interview helps determine your motivation and interest level in the
MBT program as well as assess your qualifications to be a successful
MBT student.
You
will be presented with scenarios to test your basic and functional
experience in a lab environment.
You
can apply regardless of the visa you hold or are applying for.
We accept
both academic and professional references.
Here
are some of the jobs our graduates have obtained upon graduation:
Research Associate, Regulatory Affairs Consultant, Associate Project
Manager, Software QA Engineer, Licensing Specialist, to name a few. |
