Three students will be selected from SJSU and three from other locations
Students will be paid $460/week for ten weeks for a total of $4,600 in 2010
Students will be paid $480/week for ten weeks for a total of $4,800 in 2011
Students will be paid $500/week for ten weeks for a total of $5,000 in 2012
Students will receive a meal card
Research supplies and poster materials will be provided by RUMBA
Airfare and housing will be provided for those students recruited outside of Northern California’s Bay Area

Be a U.S. citizen or a naturalized U.S. citizen
Be an undergraduate student (second semester freshman, sophmore, junior or non-graduating senior)
Have a GPA of 3.0 or above
Have completed at least the first year of core Biology and Chemistry major courses before the summer RUMBA program begin (Students enrolled in the second semester of the freshman biology and chemistry core when they are applying to RUMBA will be considered)
The San Jose Metropolitan Area is one of the most diverse communities in the nation. The composition of the RUMBA participants will reflect the cultural and racial diversity of the Silicon Valley. We will recruit ten students each summer, for a total of thirty students (three years).
