Application Process and
Forms
The San Jose Metropolitan Area is on of the most diverse communities in
the nation. The Composition of the RUMBA participants will reflect
the cultural and racial diversity of the Silicon Valley. We will
recruit eight students each summer, for a total of 24 students (three years).
- Qualifications - Applicants
must meet the following qualifications:
- Be a U.S. citizen or a
naturalized US citizen
- Be an undergraduate student
(second semester freshman, sophomore, junior or
non-graduating senior)
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or above
- Have completed at least the
first year of core Biology and Chemistry major courses
before the summer RUMBA Program begins.
Students enrolled in the second semester of the freshman
biology and chemistry core when they are applying to
RUMBA will be considered.
- Selection Process -
Students will be selected using the following criteria:

qualifications

Quality of references

Quality of personal
statement

Quality of personal or
phone interview

Three students will
be selected from SJSU and three from other locations
- Participant support -
Participating students will be supported in the following
manner:

Students will be paid
$400/week for ten weeks for a total of $4,000

Research supplies and
poster materials will be provided by RUMBA
-
Air fare, and housing will be provided for those students (4)
recruited outside of Northern California's Bay Area.

Important
Datelines:
- Complete application
packet is due on February 14, 2007
- Students will be
interviewed February 21.
- Students will be accepted
by March 2
- RUMBA Summer Program
begins on June 4.
