The is a new scholarship program targeting outstanding high school students.
There are currently up to five of these scholarships awarded annually. One of these
scholarships, The Laurie and Betty Davison President's Scholars in the Life Sciences,
is designated for students who wish to major in biology or biochemistry. Students
selected for the program receive payment for tuition, fees, books. For each, a member of the SJSU faculty serves as mentor.
After the first year, president's scholars can renew their scholarship for up to
three additional years as long as they remain enrolled full-time and maintain a
specified grade point average. Students eligible for president's scholar awards
include national merit scholars, national merit finalists, and high school valedictorians.
Additional scholarships may be available for students with a cumulative grade point
average of 3.75 who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership potential or creative
talent.
Freshman may apply for the Davison President's Scholars endowment with the
following qualification:
- eligibility from high school should have a cumulative
3.75 gpa,
- leadership and service in their high schools
- high ranking in high
school
- It is the intent of the fund to award a 4-year scholarship if gpa and
other requirements stated below are maintained in a Life Sciences major

All scholar students who have been accepted as a Davison
scholar may apply each year for follow-on funding must
- be a Life sciences
(declared majors of biological sciences)
- enrolled at least half time
- minimum of
3.0 overall gpa.
- demonstrate financial need
