Approximately 8 to 10 temporary faculty each semester complement regular faculty,
often as replacements for sabbatical and professional leaves. Temporary faculty
are selected from a pool of applicants whose CV's are on file, and who have provided
a letter of interest outlining their areas of teaching expertise. Temporary faculty
often teach lower division courses in biology, microbiology, human anatomy, and
zoology, and occasionally upper division courses in immunobiology, ecology and entomology.
Relocation support is not available. Salaries are negotiable depending upon teaching
experience, but a "typical" salary for a semester 3-unit lecture course is $3500
- $4000. Benefits can be paid to temporary faculty only if their appointment exceeds
50% of a full-load appointment, and the appointment occurs in August for a full
year. Full-time temporary positions must be filled as a result of a national search.
