New Stewardship Major

The Biological Sciences Department announces a new concentration, Biodiversity Stewardship, within our BA in Natural Science program to begin in Spring 2007. The major is designed for students who want to help save the living world by acting as biodiversity specialists, translators of scientific information and facilitators for conservation. Coursework is in three main areas:

1. Courses that lead to an understanding of the biology of organisms

2. Courses that improve written and oral communication skills.

3. Courses that allow for an understanding of the relationship between the preservation of biological species and the needs of society.

With a careful choice of electives, students can easily complete a minor in Environmental Studies as well. Advisors for the new major are Dr. Michael Kutilek, (408) 924-4895 or mkutilek@email.sjsu.edu, and Dr. Jerry Smith, (408) 924-4855 or smithj@email.sjsu.edu.
