Susan C. Lambrecht, Ph.D., Professor of Biology

We study how climate shapes variation in plant form and function, with a particular focus on reproduction. What are physiological resource costs of reproduction, and how do these vary across environments? How does resource availability, especially water, affect variation in reproductive and other functional traits? We also investigate invasive species, answering questions about their response to climate and testing methods for their eradication. These types of questions help us understand not only basic plant functional and evolutionary biology, but also big picture issues, such as how plants respond to climate change, so that we may inform management and conservation.

Courses taught by Prof. Lambrecht encompass these same concepts of plant functional morphology, physiological ecology, and California plant community distribution in relation to climate, geology, and soils.
