Preparation for the Health Professions
For preparation for the health professions, see the

Several concentrations within the biological sciences major prepare students for careers in medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, podiatry, pharmacy, medical technology, and physical therapy. The appropriate degree may be either the BA with proper choices of electives or the BS with a concentration in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or Systems Physiology, depending on individual interest. Careers in nursing, occupational therapy, and health education are best sought through degree programs in Applied Sciences and Arts. Contact the College of Applied Sciences and Arts, Department of Health Science, for additional opportunities in health careers. Two-year programs in dental hygiene, dental assistance, radiological technician, and physician's assistance are best followed at a community college (see especially Foothill College in the San Francisco Peninsula region for information).
