The Department of Biological Sciences enrolls over 600
undergraduate and 100 graduate majors who pursue studies in many areas. The
department is known for its strong undergraduate and master's programs in
Conservation and Organismal Biology, Systems Physiology, Molecular Biology,
Microbiology, and Science Education and for its training for the health
professions (e.g., premedical, predentistry, prepharmacy, preoptometry,
preveterinary). Recently added are a one-year, post-graduate training program
in Clinical Laboratory Sciences (medical
technology) and a specialized master's degree with a concentration in
biotechnology (MBT program). The
department provides its students with a strong theoretical foundation in
biology combined with extensive, hands-on laboratory and field experiences
using modern technology. The variety of courses is high, and the faculty is
readily accessible.
